Nagasaki (Japanese: 長崎, IPA: [naɡaꜜsaki]; lit. "Long Cape") is the capital and the largest city of Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan. It became the sole port used for trade with the Portuguese and Dutch during the 16th through 19th centuries. The Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region have been recognized and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Part of Nagasaki was home to a major Imperial Japanese Navy base during the First Sino-Japanese War and Russo-Japanese War. Near the end of World War II, the American atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki made Nagasaki the second and, to date, last city in the world to experience a nuclear attack (at 11:02 am, August 9, 1945 'Japan Standard Time (UTC+9)').As of 1 June 2020, the city has an estimated population of 407,624 and a population density of 1,004 people per km2. The total area is 405.86 km2 (156.70 sq mi).

2．Sasebo
Sasebo (佐世保市, Sasebo-shi) is a core city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. It is also the second largest city in Nagasaki Prefecture, after its capital, Nagasaki. On 1 June 2019, the city had an estimated population of 247,739 and a population density of 581 persons per km2 (1,505 persons per square mile). The total area is 426.06 km2 (165 sq mi). The city includes a part of Saikai National Park. Located in the southern part of the city is the Dutch-styled theme park Huis Ten Bosch. The island of Ukujima is also administered as part of Sasebo city.

3．Shimabara, Nagasaki
Shimabara (島原市, Shimabara-shi) is a city located on the north-eastern tip of the Shimabara Peninsula, facing Ariake Bay in the east and Mount Unzen (including Fugendake) in the west, in Nagasaki Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. As of October 1, 2016, the city has an estimated population of 44,936 and a population density of 540 per km². The total area is 82.77 km².

4．Isahaya, Nagasaki
Isahaya (諫早市, Isahaya-shi) is a city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on September 1, 1940. As of November 1, 2022, the city has an estimated population of 132,385 and a population density of 389 persons per km². The total area is 341.79 km2 (131.97 sq mi). On March 1, 2005, the towns of Tarami, Moriyama, Iimori, Takaki and Konagai (all from Kitatakaki District) were merged to create the new and expanded city of Isahaya. The city was once part of Kitatakaki District, but due to this merger, the district has no more municipalities left and the district was officially dissolved.

5．Ōmura, Nagasaki
Ōmura (大村市, Ōmura-shi) is a city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. As of September 30, 2022, the city has an estimated population of 98,237 and a population density of 750 persons per km2. Its total area is 126.33 km2, and it includes Nagasaki Airport.

6．Hirado, Nagasaki
Hirado (平戸市, Hirado-shi) is a city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The part historically named Hirado is located on Hirado Island. With recent mergers, the city's boundaries have expanded, and Hirado now occupies parts of the main island of Kyushu. The components are connected by the Hirado Bridge. As of March 1, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 31,192 and a population density of 130 persons per km². The total area is 235.63 km2 (91 square miles).

7．Matsuura, Nagasaki
Matsuura (松浦市, Matsuura-shi) is a city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. Matsuura City is bordered on three sides by mountains. Matsuura Bay, which leads to the Genkai Sea, makes up the fourth side. As of April 1, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 23,566 and a population density of 180 persons per km². The total area is 130.37 km².

8．Tsushima, Nagasaki
Tsushima (対馬市, Tsushima-shi) is an island city grouped in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. It is the only city of Tsushima Subprefecture and it encompasses all of Tsushima Island Archipelago, which lies in the Tsushima Strait north of Nagasaki on the western side of Kyushu, the southernmost mainland island of Japan. As of March 2017, the city has an estimated population of 31,550 and a population density of 45 persons per km2. Its total area is 708.61 km2, 17.3% of the area of Nagasaki Prefecture.

10．Gotō, Nagasaki
Gotō (五島市, Gotō-shi) is a city in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. It comprises the south-west half of the Gotō Islands plus (uninhabited) Danjo and Hizen Torishima archipelagos in the East China Sea. Although the core islands of the city lay some 100 kilometers from Nagasaki, the other archipelagos lay 60 km further to South-West. The city consists of 11 inhabited and 52 uninhabited islands. The three main islands of the city are Fukue, Hisaka, and Naru. As of March 31, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 37,775 and a population density of 90 persons per km2. The total area is 420.81 km2.

11．Saikai, Nagasaki
Saikai (西海市, Saikai-shi) is a city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. As of March 2017, the city has an estimated population of 28,815 and a population density of 4,700 persons per km2. The total area is 242.01 km2.The modern city of Saikai was established on April 1, 2005, from the merger of five towns on the northern tip of Nishisonogi Peninsula: the former town of Saikai, Ōseto, Ōshima, Sakito and Seihi (all from Nishisonogi District). Its city hall is the former town hall of Ōseto. The economy of the towns in this area were dominated by fishing and whaling in the Edo period, and coal mining in the Meiji period. The area is now primarily agricultural, with forestry products and tourism also of importance. However, on Oshima island, north of Saikai and close to Sasebo, a large shipyard is active building bulk ships and metal structures, i.e. Oshima Shipbuilding, in which the Sumitomo Heavy Industries has shares.

Unzen (雲仙市, Unzen-shi) is a city located in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, on the northern tip of Shimabara Peninsula, facing Ariake Bay in the east and Mount Unzen to the south. As of November 2018, the city has an estimated population of 42,457 and a population density of 220 people per km². The total area is 206.92 km².

13．Minamishimabara
Minamishimabara (南島原市, Minami-Shimabara-shi, lit. South Shimabara City) is a city in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. It occupies the southern tip of Shimabara Peninsula. As of 1 March 2017, the city has an estimated population of 45,465 and a population density of 270 persons per km2. The total area is 169.89 km2.The modern city of Minamishimabara was founded on March 31, 2006, from the merger of the towns of Arie, Fukae, Futsu, Kazusa, Kitaarima, Kuchinotsu, Minamiarima and Nishiarie (all from Minamitakaki District). Minamitakaki District was dissolved as a result of this merger.

As of March 31, 2017, the town has an estimated population of 30,084 and a density of 1,500 persons per km². The total area is 20.73 km². Neighbouring the town of Nagayo, Togitsu is notable for having a wide variety of retail stores and serves as a regional shopping centre for the Nishisonogi district of Nagasaki prefecture.

17．Kawatana, Nagasaki
Kawatana (川棚町, Kawatana-chō) is a town located in Higashisonogi District, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. As of October 1, 2021, the town has an estimated population of 13,221 and a density of 355 persons per km2. The total area is 37.25 km2. During World War II, manufacturing facilities associated with the Sasebo Naval Arsenal were constructed in Kawatana, leading to a temporary increase in population. The economy of the area is now heavily dependent on agriculture and fishing.

20．Emukae, Nagasaki
Emukae (江迎町, Emukae-chō) was a town located in Kitamatsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. On January 1, 2009, the town had an estimated population of 6,849 and a population density of 182.00 per square kilometre (471.4/sq mi). The total area was 32.07 square kilometres (12.38 sq mi). On March 31, 2010, Emukae, along with the town of Shikamachi (also from Kitamatsuura District), was merged into the expanded city of Sasebo.Emukae is most famous for its annual Sentoro Festival, which features a giant triangular frame bearing one thousand red lanterns. It is also the site of Senryugataki (Senryu Waterfall). The town has two pre-schools, a kindergarten, two elementary schools and one junior high school (middle school). It is approximately one hour's drive from the city hall of Sasebo, two hours from Nagasaki and about three hours from Fukuoka.

22．Shin-Kamigotō
Shin-Kamigotō (新上五島町, Shin-Kamigotō-chō) is a town located in Minami-Matsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The town was established on August 1, 2004 after the merger of the towns of Arikawa, Kamigotō, Narao, Shin-Uonome and Wakamatsu, all from Minami-Matsuura District. It occupies the two main islands of Nakadōri and Wakamatsu, which are connected by Wakamatsu Oohashi ("Wakamatsu Great Bridge") via the small, unpopulated islet of Kaminakajima (上中島), as well as several smaller islands, including the populated islands of Arifuku, Hinoshima, Ryōzegaura, Kashiragashima, and Kirinoko. Wakamatsu Island is connected at its northwestern extremity to Ryōzegaura Island by the Ryōzegaura Bridge, and Ryōzegaura Island is further linked with the islands of Arifuku and Hinoshima by breakwaters that allow traffic of automobiles. Kashiragashima Oohashi connects the eastern end of the main island of Nakadōri with Kashiragashima, on which the famous Kashiragashima Church and the defunct Kamigotō Airport are located. The islands that comprise the territory of Shin-Kamigotō Town also form the northeastern half of the Gotō Islands archipelago, which is the origin of the name Kamigotō (literally, "Upper Five Islands"), in which Gotō ("Five Islands") is the name of the entire archipelago, and Kami- ("Upper") refers to the fact that this half of the archipelago is located closer to the Japanese capital relative to the southwestern half. The prefix Shin- (新) at the beginning of the town's name means "new," so its full name may be translated literally to English as "New Upper Five Islands Town," though the name may be interpreted to refer to the town as a new and expanded version of the former Kamigotō Town, which was centered on the port of Aokata on the western side of the middle of Nakadōri Island. As of March 31, 2017, the town has an estimated population of 19,866 and a density of 93 persons per km2. The total area is 213.98 km2.
